United Methodist Women

Our Purpose

“The organized unit of the United Methodist Women shall be community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.”

Our History and Mission

In 1689, six church women learned about the needs of poor women in India from missionaries‘  wives.  They convinced their husbands to support two missionaries financially, supporting and helping with the educational and medical needs of poor women and children in India.

St. Luke’s United Methodist Women was begun in January of 1986 with 16 women.  Four of the original members are on our roll today.

Outreach in Christ’s name is still our goal for the world.  We support the work of mission in all countries, including the United States.  The poorest of the poor learn that they have something to give which lets them hold their head up proudly.  We start with helping with infants and then their parents get medical attention and gain understanding through education.  Young women are taught skills to support their families.  The old know that their lives are important to all.

We also physically participate in the work of United Methodist Women’s relief programs globally by providing birthing kits, school kits, health kits or flood clean-up buckets that go not only to third world countries but also to our country when needed.

This year our emphasis is on welcoming all to become our sisters and brothers in Christ.

Each of us has individual talent to share.  Not all of us feel comfortable doing all things--carrying food to people we don’t know, speaking publically to a group of people, dropping by a stranger’s home, telling children that we admire them, or just welcoming strangers.  But with all us working together, we can fill all these roles by sharing the one thing that we are comfortable doing, as part of a larger fellowship.

WELCOME!!

Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
